What to expect…

What to expect in a risk control visit

A quick guide for our insureds

Don’t sweat it…

Insurance risk control visits are not like the inspections you have with the DOT. Our meeting is intended to get to know your business a little better. It’s a normal part of the underwriting process-no matter if you have a new policy or you’re renewing an existing policy with Knight Specialty or KnightBrook Insurance Companies.

Your agent has teamed up with Preferred Reports to gather the information needed to compete or your insurance file. Your visit will be handled by a representative of Preferred Reports. You’ll be contacted to set up a convenient time for the visit. Depending on the size of your operation an average risk control meeting may take from 30 to 45 minutes on average.

These visits include a discussion about your business. You’ll be asked about how long you have been in operation, they type of cargo hauled, and your radius of operations. They’ll be other questions regarding your vehicles, drivers, and how you screen new employees. You may be asked to provide information about any prior losses.

The representative will ask about your drug and alcohol testing program along with your fleet safety program. They may need to see a sampling of driver files to confirm things like a current commercial drivers license, medical clearance, and drug test confirmation are present. Once finished with the operations side of the business the visit will move to the vehicles.

You’ll be asked a few questions about how the vehicles are maintained, your pre and post trip inspection process, and you’ll be asked to provide your vehicle records and prior DOT inspections.

The final part of the visit will focus on your vehicles. They’ll want to see where the units are kept when they aren’t on the road. Our representative will take photos of your building, parking lot, and any vehicles available during the visit. These will include front, rear, and side photos and in-cab photos if possible to confirm the vehicle’s condition.
